When did we forget to play?
This post is dedicated to kill the concept of work and the obligation towards it. When did our society forget how to play? Today we live in an age that has nearly eradicated the concept of playing. Many of us spends a vast amount of resources trying hard to look cool and demonstrate to the world how professional we are and many regard playing as a “time wasting” activity utterly frowned upon.
In order to illustrate how terrible we have become let’s compare some of our activities to children. Do children socialize by going on cafes to just sit down and drink coffee? Do they wear suits and formal clothing protect demonstrate a professional outlook? If we ask the author of play and fun, God himself, I believe God he would want us to play as much of possible. After all, what value is created by taking life too seriously? Who is becoming a more enjoyable colleague, becoming more creative at their job, or keeping more calm in chaotic situation by stressing over the seriousness of it all?
What could happen if we started seeing the world as a playground full of opportunities to have fun and exploration with the people around us?
Are we then just supposed to play all day long? When discussing outlook on life, wise men have said that our relations to others is what matters most. If that is true then making the world a better place while having fun must seem to be a noble undertaking. If we can create value by helping one another and make a living by doing it, we are on to something worthwhile. If we then add another ingredient, the gift of talent, the unique skillset God has installed in every single one of us, success is certain. When those items are put in the mixer: Love, Fun and Talent I believe a beautiful and incredibly sexy cocktail of Passion will emerge.
Once this passion found, the 70 hour work week everyone will comment on us having, will suddenly be the drive that gets us up in the morning. As a matter of fact it couldn’t feel further from working.
